Kat Asks: Isabella Haddad of Violent Lips

Hey everyone! For today’s “Kat Asks” interview I spoke with my friend Isabella Haddad. She is extremely talented and the creator of a personal beauty fav, Violent Lips, which are super fun for any occasion! I’m so excited she took the time to chat with me, I know you’re going to love her! Xo

1. How would you describe your “taste”?
My taste in clothes is pretty casual. I’m normally the girl wearing a t-shirt, a pair of skinny jeans, and boots. But, I love dressing up whenever I get the chance too. I just went to prom (WOOHOO) and I wore a very classy white dress from Alice and Olivia. I guess my taste is all over the place and just depends on my mood.

2. Where do you get your “taste” from?
I get my taste from blogs, magazines, and my mom.

3. What is your most recent obsession?
I am so obsessed with the mint EOS lip balm! It goes on perfectly after applying Violent Lips.

4. What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to taste/style?
My biggest pet peeve is when people wear socks over their jeans.

5. Can you be taught “taste”? Yes!

6. What is really bad taste?
Bad taste to me is looking the complete opposite of classy…like wearing super ripped short shorts and a crop top.

7. Can you have good taste on a budget? How?
Yes! There is a solid amount of stores with such great things for a reasonable price. It just takes some searching!

8. What is the one thing every girl/woman should own in life?
Every girl should own a Clarisonic Pro for her face. And a pair of violent lips or eyes ;)

9. What is your favorite quote or motto?
“Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know which one you’re gonna get.” -Forrest Gump (my favorite movie)

10. What are 3 things people don’t know about you?
One thing is that I have been studying acting! Another is that my native language is Indonesian. The last thing is that I have the worst eye vision!!

11. Any advice for aspiring tastemakers in your field?
Don’t be afraid to do something daring!

12. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself creating and designing new “Violent” lines. I hope to see our company further expanding worldwide. I also see myself continuing to study acting.

13. Which living person do you most admire?
I most admire my sister. Even though she’s younger than me, she teaches me so much every day. She knows how to present herself well in front of investors and I think that’s pretty impressive for an 11 year old! She’s my best friend and I love her so much!

14. What is your biggest challenge with (insert profession/taste) and how do you overcome it?
My biggest challenge would be dealing with people who don’t take me seriously because I’m so young and “inexperienced”. I don’t let his affect me anymore because I have leaned to never give up anything you’re passionate for.

15. What does “being creative” mean to you?
To me, being creative means that one has the ability to freely express his/her ideas in his/her own way.

16. What is one thing (a brand, product, website, store, etc) that best represents your personal taste?
Violentlips.com! There are crazy designs, classy designs, and fun designs. All of these different kinds of designs parallel my taste.

17. When did you get the idea for your company Violent Lips?
My sister and I invented the product when I was 14 and when she was 9!

18. Did you ever think you were too young to start your company?
Definitely. Walking into meetings and being significantly younger than everyone in the room is pretty intimidating. But, when my sister and I closed deals with other companies we felt a huge sense of accomplishment. From then on we realized that age is just a number and we can pursue anything we set our minds to.

19. What is the most important thing you have learned about running a business at such a young age?
To never give up! My sister and I had our doubts about starting a business at such a young age but the amount of things we have already accomplished in 2 years is incredible.

20. How did you get from the idea to actually creating your product?
My mom brought home Chanel Temporary Tattoos. My sister Sophia and I were playing in her makeup bag and decided to put the tattoos on our lips. We went to an event that night with them still on our lips and everyone went crazy. My dad, sister, and I looked at each other and … LIGHT BULB!

21. Where do you hope to take your company in the future?
I hope to further expand Violent Lips globally and to create new “Violent” lines.

22. How has it been to work with your sister on this project?
It has been so fun! Meetings and certain events would not be as exciting if she wasn’t there. Also, I am so lucky to have created this product with my sister because I know that she will always be there for me.

23. What are 5 things you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my phone, my computer, my car, my journal full of all the Violent lips/eyes designs and the movie Forrest Gump.

24. Who is your fashion role model?
I look up to my mom! I don’t know anyone with a better style than her. She can dress very chic and classy but she can also dress more casual and still look fabulous. Too bad we don’t have the same shoe size :(
