How to Get Your Home Summer Ready

This post was sponsored in partnership with Charmin.

Now that I am finally moved into my home (more to come on that!), one of the things I am really excited about doing this summer is hosting fun get-togethers with my friends and family :) Growing up, I learned the importance of prepping your home for visitors from my mom, and now I get to take a stab at it myself. I’m all about creating a welcoming and warm space that not only feels stylish, but also functional. Here are a few of my home must-haves for all that’s to come this summer:

A pre-made music playlist: I like to make a few different music playlists (and keep them ready to go!), based on the crowd I’m entertaining. When in doubt, a good mix of current pop hits are always easy. I also like to have a nice chill wind down playlist too just depending on the vibe. Spotify always makes it easy!

Fresh flowers: Fresh flowers always brighten up my day and make a big difference to any room, especially if you’re still in the process of decorating or low on décor items. Trader Joe’s or your local grocery store has inexpensive flowers that you can easily arrange yourself. I love getting my flowers at the local farmers markets and the whole process of arranging the flowers is actually very calming and fun.

Don’t forget your bathrooms: Your guest bathroom is often a space that’s overlooked when getting your home ready for guests staying with you or just coming over for a gathering. Even though we may not love talking about the bathroom, the reality is all of your guests will use the room at some point during their visit… so why not make it the best experience they can have. I make sure my bathrooms are always stocked up with Charmin Ultra Soft or Charmin Ultra Strong: I chose this toilet paper as one of my favorites because the two-ply paper really IS super soft and strong…and since it is so plush, you end up using a lot less paper than you would with other brands.   I also like to add a nice-smelling candle in the bathroom, as well as a small flower arrangement. What I currently have in my bathroom here and here!

A comfy blanket: This is especially good to have on hand if you’re having friends over to watch a movie or just sit outside in the evening. I like to keep a few (2-3 is great) folded neatly near the couch so people can grab them as they please. My favorites are this vertical stripe version and this Joss & Main throw!

Yummy food: It goes without saying that good food is a must! You know your guests better than anyone so just make sure to plan accordingly if you have someone who is vegan or has another dietary restriction. Whether you are having people over for a party or house guests staying with you, it’s always important to keep your fridge stocked with summer foods. Here are a couple of my go-to recipes:

A signature cocktail: If you’re going to be serving alcohol, it’s always fun to come up with a themed cocktail, depending on the reason for the party. This also ends up saving you some money since you then won’t have to have a huge assortment of different alcohols on hand! One of my favorite summer drinks is a nice glass of rosé or a pitcher of sangria. I love this hilarious signature drink name generator. Have fun with it!

Have games on-hand: Summer days and nights are always nice times to just chill out and enjoy each others company but if you ever want to spice things up, having a good group game is always key. You can play various fun games using your iPhone, like heads up, but having a good board game or card came is also a fun option. I love Cards Against Humanity, Uno or Dominos.

What do you guys think? What are some of your best house prepping tips when hosting a party?
